Over the company's 17-year journey, its operations have evolved significantly. The business began in 2009 with the design and manufacture of injection molds through a partner network. The cornerstone of the operation was, and remains, providing customers with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) support and a comprehensive understanding of injection molded products and tool design. After a few years, a maintenance facility was established in Finland to provide life-cycle services for molds.
In 2019, Pdat Oy decided to expand its service offering by investing in injection molding capacity at the Finnish plant. At the same time, Pdat Group established its own mold factory. In 2022, the company’s new factory was completed in Avanti 3, Lieto, where the company still operates today. The company’s growth and development have been rapid in recent years, and the new business strategy implemented at the turn of the decade has proven effective, bringing in new customer relationships and strengthening partnerships with existing customers regarding both plastic products and molds. Today, Pdat Group employs 14 people in Finland and 43 people globally.
In the future, Pdat will continue on a strong growth path, further strengthening its injection molding and secondary processing services. The growing interest among customers for low-volume integration and automation solutions has been recognized, and this offering will be more effectively productized in the future.
"Our in-house design and manufacturing of various automation equipment enables a cost-effective way for product designers to integrate functions and components directly into the injection-molded part, providing flexibility and competitiveness in the market," emphasizes Totti Nurmela.
Our goal is to offer service packages at different levels, allowing customers to choose the best fit for their own operations, whether it concerns molds or a complete product set packed in retail packaging.
The manufacturing of molds for other contract manufacturers and OEM molders will continue to be an important part of the company's business, and injection molding services will also strengthen the service offering in this sector.
Kai Nurmela will step into the role of Technical Expert. "My role throughout the company's journey has been, and still is, to focus on product and mold design, and I intend to continue doing that for a long time to come," Kai Nurmela states.
